How to re-create your salon look at home
“Have you ever left the salon saying “ I wish I could do this at home?”
Our guest tell us that all the time. One of the biggest reasons it is difficult to re-create a salon look at home is a lot of guest either do not own the right tools or have the tools but don’t know the correct way to use them. We are going to break down all of our favorite tool and share some insider tips.
Blowdryer
A professional grade blow dryer will be your best friend. Not only will it be more powerful than you standard dryer, but most professional dryers have heat technology that will keep the heat at a controlled temperature to insure that your hair is not dried out or damaged from excess heat.
Any professional dryer worth purchasing will include two attachments.
nozzle- concentrates the heat and airflow of the dryer. This will allow for optimal shine and smoothness. By moving the airflow in the same direction as the hair strains you can get the perfect polished look.
Defuser- concentrates heat, best results on textured hair. The gentle airflow will allow the natural or artificial texture to dry with out disrupting the formation and control frizz.

- use a primer or leave in prep spray
- maintaining tension
- address each area of hair strain with customized product
Flat iron & Curling irons
You need a flat iron that has multiple temperature controls. Depending on texture of hair and chemical services you may have had in the past or currently have the temperature need varies from person to person.
Tension is key when using flat iron. Regardless of end result desired, to much tension will leave marks and can cause damage to hair. Not enough tension will result in a fizzy end result.
When it comes to your curling iron, the size the barrel will change your end result. The larger the barrel the looser the curl. The smaller the barrel the tighter the curl.
The same applies when it comes to the amount of hair in your section. The more hair you try to curl or flat iron at a time the less formation or smoothness you will receive.
Anytime you use heat on the hair you need to be using a heat protecting spray. Flat irons can reach temperature at high as 450 degrees. This is hot enough to melt the hair off. Especially with fine textures.
Brushes
The biggest thing to consider when choosing a brush is the type of material both the brush and bristles are made from.
Ceramic- conduct heat, this will. create more formation to the style. The typically have plastic bristles which will help to detangle thru the section of hair.
Boar- provides high polish and shine, helps to move natural oils thru hair.
vinyl- provide polish, great for smooth precision looks.
Professional tools tend to have a longer warranty than you typical tools because the frequency they are used. All though they are a bit of an investment, they end off being worth it in the long run. Here are some of our favorite tool.
